Kristallnacht in Venezuela?

By Kathy Shaidle
FrontPageMagazine.com | 1/15/2009

Less than a month ago, Venezuelan President Hugo Chavez joined his Argentinean and Brazilian counterparts to sign the “2008 Declaration Against Anti-Semitism”, under which the three countries agreed to “condemn racism, religious intolerance, racial discrimination and related intolerance.”

However, it wasn’t long before the Simon Wiesenthal Center and the Anti-Defamation League were obliged to issue another round of their regular condemnations of Chavez, this time for comparing Israel’s counteroffensive against Hams to the Holocaust, and for expelling Israeli ambassador Shlomo Cohen shortly after that military offensive began earlier this month.

Yes, it's anti-Semitism

By Jeff Jacoby

http://www.JewishWorldReview.com | Criticizing Israel doesn't make you anti-Semitic: If it's been said once, it's been said a thousand times. Yet somehow that message doesn't seem to have reached the hundreds of anti-Israel demonstrators in Fort Lauderdale, Fla., who turned out last week to protest Israel's military operation in Gaza. As their signs and chants made clear, it isn't only the Jewish state's policies they oppose. Their animus goes further.

Blaming the Jews, Again--Cal Thomas

Just as the Obama campaign seemed to be making progress in tamping down rumors about his alleged Muslim background and that he might be a "Manchurian candidate" for the Arab-Islamic world, up steps the Rev. Jesse Jackson to upset the falafel cart.

Jackson, who doesn't speak for the Obama campaign and has no role in it, was in Evian, France, the home of the preferred water of Volvo-driving liberals, where he spoke with columnist and author Amir Taheri about what he thinks the foreign policy in an Obama administration would look like. Jackson said things would start to improve in an Obama administration because "decades of putting Israel first" would come to an end.

Jews Being Blamed for Financial Crisis

Jews being blamed for US financial crisis

Popular anti-Semitic sentiment frighteningly reminiscent of the lead-up to Nazi rule in Germany is growing in the United States in response to the current economic crisis.

With a deflated Wall Street begging for a lifeline from Washington, small businesses across the country unable to secure needed loans and average Americans being turned away by mortgage banks, many people are looking for a scapegoat.

The Anti-Semitic Lie That Won't Go Away--Townhall

While fires were still smoldering at Ground Zero, the Pentagon, and in a Pennsylvanian pasture, malicious people conjured up an evil myth. In the face of overwhelming evidence to the contrary, many in the Arab world believed that the vicious attack on America was not the work of Islamists, but rather was an Israeli-driven Mossad operation. This legend soon developed muscular legs and is now widely regarded by millions of Muslims as the truth.

Curriculum review finds Islamic schools in America breeding anti-Semitism

The U.S. Commission on International Religious Freedom has suspected since last year that textbooks used at a Saudi-run school in Alexandria, Va., advocated religious bigotry. Now, the commission says, it has proof of its suspicions.

In October of 2007, the congressionally-formed, bipartisan commission actually recommended closing the Islamic Saudi Academy, even though at the time, it had not reviewed the school's textbooks.

But through congressional offices and other private sources, the commission was able to review curriculum used at the school and released their report this week.

A Review: 'The Legacy of Antisemitism'

by Rael Jean Isaac (more by this author)
Posted 06/11/2008 ET

*A Book Review: The Legacy of Islamic Antisemitism, edited by Andrew G. Bostom

Bostom’s new book shreds two myths that have become almost as entrenched among the media/academic elite as man-made global warming: that Islamic anti-Semitism is a recent phenomenon learned from the Nazis and that Islam is a religion tolerant of minorities, with Jews living safely under Islam for many centuries, never more idyllically than during the Golden Age of Muslim Spain.

Like Bostom’s earlier companion volume "The Legacy of Jihad: Islamic Holy War and the Fate of Non-Muslims", this is effectively two books: a lengthy overview, by Bostom, followed by the “proof-texts:” relevant sections of the Koran, the hadith (its authoritative exegesis) and the sira (early biographical writing on Mohammed); the statements of more recent key Islamic jurists; and essays, some by experts, many of them first hand, on the actual experience of minorities under Islam at different times and places.

Anti-Semitic Once-Great Britain

The United Kingdom, which in its heydays of empire was one of the major early facilitators of the return of the Jews to their ancient homeland, and of the return of that land to its people, is today a hotbed of antisemitic anti-Israel sentiment.

This belief was voiced by Israeli ambassador to England, Ron Prosor, in a scathing article published Tuesday in the British paper the Daily Telegraph.

Prosor said he was concerned that "the most extreme elements of the debate" have "been allowed to hijack" mainstream thought on Israel, adding, "I implore the British public to prevent the radical fringe from monopolizing British-Israeli discourse.

Is there such a thing as Islamic anti-Semitism? That is the implicit question that Andrew Bostom's new book, "The Legacy of Islamic Antisemitism," tackles. The regrettable answer that presents itself is not based on conjecture, political correctness, anachronisms or wishful thinking — increasingly the domains and paradigms of modern academia —but rather primary texts that speak for themselves. Dr. Bostom, whom I have met and who evinces a passion for the subject of his book, still manages to approach it objectively. A medical doctor by profession, he applies the scientific method and bases his conclusions on the data — as all scholars used to.

"Never Again" Seems Likelier to Happen

“Sadly, as we marked this year’s Holocaust Remembrance Day, ‘never again’ seems further from reach than ever. Jews continue to be targeted, be it in the 1994 bombing of the Jewish center in Buenos Aires, Argentina, or the repeated desecration of Jewish graves in Berlin. Holocaust denial has became accepted as legitimate thought in some circles and has become a foreign-policy talking point in the regimes of others.And when I, a gentile columnist, have written about the outrage of Holocaust denial, I’ve received far too many letters defending the deniers.

‘Jews don’t care about anybody but the Jews,’ wrote one Canadian reader. ‘…Only a fool would trust a Jew to play fair with gentiles. … They’re laughing at you for falling for their lies. Don’t be such a sap.’

The Need to Shout "Never Again", Again

One does not hear that declaration too often anymore: the most powerful, gut-wrenching two words that defined a generation; the simple, yet all-inclusive outcry of the Jewish People following the Shoah: Never Again!

We were told by our leaders: Never Again would a Jew be hunted down, exposed and destroyed for being Jewish. And that: Never Again would a Jew be de-humanized. And, finally: Never Again would the Jewish People be the target of genocide.

There is a tragic reason one does not hear those words these days. "Again" is happening at this very moment -- again, Jewish men, women and children are being collectively and purposefully targeted and attacked. View Full Article

Ahmadinejad's Holocaust Myths

By Alan M. Dershowitz
FrontPageMagazine.com | 9/28/2007

In his speeches, most especially the one at Columbia University, Mahmoud Ahmadinejad repeats two myths about the Holocaust. The first every reasonable person knows is a total lie: namely that the Holocaust did not occur. The second myth, however, is one that escapes critical attention for the most part, because many people are not aware of its falsity. The myth is that the Palestinian people and their leadership had absolutely nothing to do with the Holocaust. The conclusion that is supposed to follow from this “fact” is that the establishment of Israel in the wake of the Nazi genocide of the Jewish people was unfair to the Palestinians. This is the way Ahmadinejad put it in his Columbia talk. View Full Article

As proof of the dangers of Ahmadinejad, these critics cite not only the Iranian dictator’s support of terror, pursuit of the bomb, and general fanaticism—all of which Saddam was likewise guilty—but, most notably, his raging anti-Semitism and rejection of the nation of Israel.

Hatred of Jews has reached new heights in Europe and many points south and east of the old continent. Last year I chaired a blue-ribbon committee of British parliamentarians, including former ministers and a party leader, that examined the problem of anti-Semitism in Britain. None of us are Jewish or active in the unending debates on the Israeli-Palestinian question.

Our report showed a pattern of fear among a small number of British citizens -- there are around 300,000 Jews in Britain, of whom about a third are observant -- that is not acceptable in a modern democracy. Synagogues attacked. Jewish schoolboys jostled on public transportation. Rabbis punched and knifed.

That interview took place after angry responses to a press conference at the American Colony Hotel, in which Roth publicized HRW's report ("Razing Rafah") attacking Israeli measures to stop Palestinian weapons smuggling into Gaza. UK Hate Crimes Against Jews at Record High

Jews in the United Kingdom were victims of a record number of hate crimes last year, says a newly released report by the Jewish community’s defense organization, the Community Security Trust (cst).

In 2006, cst catalogued 594 anti-Semitic incidents committed in the UK, representing a 31 percent increase over 2005. The 594 incidents were comprised of 112 violent assaults, 70 attacks on Jewish property, 365 occurrences of abusive behavior, and 27 threats. Crimes in each category represented at least a 34 percent increase over 2005—apart from threats, which were up by 8 percent; attacks on Jewish property were up an astounding 46 percent. Holocaust historians are only now piecing together the scattered research in many languages to understand the vast scope of the camps, prisons and punishment centers that scarred German-ruled Europe, like a pox on the landscape stretching from Greece to Norway and eastward into Russia.

Anti-Semitism, after World War II, often avoided the burning crosses and Nazi ranting. It often appeared as a more subtle animosity, fueled by envy of successful Jews in the West. "The good people, the nice people" often were the culprits, according to a character in the 1947 film "Gentleman's Agreement," which dealt with the American aristocracy's social shunning of Jews.

In four years, an unattractive anniversary will pass by—let us hope unnoticed—in Europe. It was in the year 1010 a.d. that a large number of French Jews were exiled or murdered. Many historians believe this event inaugurated hundreds of years of European anti-Semitism. Similarly, many observers thought the horror of Hitler's Holocaust of the Jews—the Shoah—would inoculate Europe for all time against one of Christendom's most malignant viruses: anti-Semitism. Sadly, they were wrong.

Holocaust Remembrance Day

How one Jewish believer escaped 'Hitler's Hell'
by Leo Hohmann

With all of the thousands of books out there about the Holocaust, you might be tempted to ask, why read another?

Indeed, there are countless works that document the cruelty, the hate, the deprivation and death inflicted by the Third Reich. Those such as Eli Weisel’s “Night” provide a first-hand account that is masterfully written but leave the reader depressed, wondering why God abandoned His people during this period of history.

But there is a book, “Trapped in Hitler’s Hell” by Anita Dittman with Jan Markell, that will sweep you into 1930s Germany and back with your faith firmly intact.

This is the true story of Ms. Dittman, whose first encounter with Hitler’s “new Germany” took place in the first grade, when she was threatened and mocked by her classmates. She is the daughter of an anti-Nazi newspaper editor and an Orthodox Jewish mother. Her father, a Gentile and an atheist, succumbs to Nazi pressure to divorce his Jewish wife and abandon his two daughters, Anita and Hella.

Why the World Hates Jews
--> Posted to Anti_Semitism for March, 2006

Why the world hates the Jews, and what we can do to respond.

Rising anti-Semitism is a hot topic. This month the subject was blazoned across the covers of such disparate magazines as U.S. News and World Report, Tikkun, Commentary, and Foreign Policy. A recent poll in which 59% of Europeans labeled Israel as the primary threat to world peace and a subsequent Italian poll in which 17% thought Israel should cease to exist and 22% declared that Jewish Italian are "not real Italians," has set off an alarm -- and a host of attempts to explain the source of "the world's longest hatred."

After all, anti-Semitism is more paradoxical than an Escher staircase. As the seminar "Why the Jews?" so aptly points out:

Jews are hated for being a lazy and inferior race - but also for dominating the economy and taking over the world.
Jews are hated for being capitalist exploiters - but also for being socialists and communists.
Jews are hated for their Chosen People mentality - but also for their cringing inferiority complex.

The Anti-Semitic Divestment Campaign

The Anti-Semitic Divestment Campaign

The Palestinianization of reality continues to escalate. Wherever one turns, Israel is being demonized, boycotted and isolated. This is certainly true in the Islamic world which, under Iran's Amadinejad, has turned nuclear, and among Palestinians who have just freely elected a terrorist group to lead them. But it is also true internationally and in the West.

For example, certain kinds of "accidents" keep happening. At the recent World Economic Forum at Davos, Divest-in-Israel literature, penned by Mazem Quimseyeh, was "accidentally" disseminated. The American Association of University Professors who were about to meet at Bellagio, Italy to focus on academic boycotts, also "accidentally" disseminated Nazi-like Holocaust denial literature to their invitees, nearly half of whom were academic-activists in favor of boycotting Israeli academics.

"Never Remember" the Holocaust
--> Posted to Anti_Semitism for September, 2005

A committee appointed by the British government, composed of Muslims, wants the nation to scrap its Holocaust Memorial Day, in the name of inclusiveness and sensitivity. No word yet on whether they also want to eliminate Passover – said to be insensitive to Egyptians.

The committee recommends replacing the observance (started in 2001 and held annually on January 27) with a Genocide (a.k.a., Victimhood) Day, which would recognize the alleged mass murder of Muslims in "Palestine," Chechnya, Bosnia, and wherever else followers of the Religion of Peace have come into conflict with the accursed infidel.

In making its case for inclusiveness, the committee somehow neglected to mention the many victims of Muslim mayhem – Armenians, Sudanese Christians, Kosovar Serbs (ethnically cleansed in the wake of NATO’s war on Yugoslavia), and Hindus – to name but a few. If an Arab stubbed his toe on the boot of a Christian knight sometime in the 11th century, it’s a crime against humanity that must be memorialized throughout the ages, according to the imams. On the other hand, the slaughter of infidels is seen as the will of Allah, and worthy of a Heavenly reward.

Dominion Theology and Anti-Semitism--Ice
--> Posted to Anti_Semitism for January, 2005

Too many Reformed folk are ignorant of the prominent place afforded to the future of the Jews in their own Reformed history and confessions, I hope to demonstrate that, while Mr. Lindsey raises legitimate concerns, he has laid the causes on the wrong theological doorstep. . . . However, it seems to me that some Reconstructionists may have asked for this sort of abuse by their own employment of similar tactics.1

-Steve Schlissel (Dominionist/Reconstructionist)

Long before Hal Lindsey wrote The Road To Holocaust2, he was the favorite whipping boy of Dominionist/Reconstructionists in their never ending attacks on the system of theology they most love to hate-Dispensationalism. When Lindsey answered back in The Road To Holocaust, the temperature of the debate boiled over into heated response. In spite of all of the huffing and puffing and cry that Lindsey struck a low blow in his characterization of Dominion/Reconstruction theology, I want to state why I believe that Hal is correct.

ORIGIN OF THE CONTROVERSY
David Rausch

The first charge that Dominion/Reconstructionists advocate views that have in the past engendered anti-Semitism which I have found were made in 1985 by evangelical scholar David Rausch in Moody Monthly.3 Rausch's scholarly credentials (a PhD, professor of church history and Judaic studies at Ashland College and Seminary, Ashland, Ohio, published over 200 articles on Jewish/Christian relations, and has written 12 books, many on this very subject) would lead one to believe that he is one of the leading experts, if not the expert on such matters. This equips him to evaluate this issue. His PhD dissertation from Kent State University in 1979 was "Zionism Within Early American Fundamentalism, 1878-1918" which chronicled the support of primarily Dispensationalists for the Jews and their efforts to found the modern state of Israel. His books which relate to Jewish studies and anti-Semitism include Messianic Judaism: Its History, Theology, and Polity (1982); Eminent Hebrew Christians of the Nineteenth Century (1983); A Legacy of Hatred: Why Christians Must Not Forget the Holocaust (1984, 1990); Building Bridges: Understanding Jews and Judaism (1988); The Middle East Maze: Israel and Her Neighbors (1991).

Enlightened Europe Has Jew-Hatred Out of Control--JWR

‘Enlightened’ Europe turning even uglier as Jew hatred spirals out of control

JewishWorldReview.com |

ARIS — For the past four years — as friends erased "Dirty Jew" graffiti from their office plaques and her French-born daughter puzzled over "go back where you belong" comments from strangers on the street — Evelyne Chiche has spent a piece of each day wondering if she was living in the wrong country.

This spring, the 62-year-old Jewish radio host plans to move to Miami. "I think it's important for my grandchildren here that I move, to provide them with a safe place should they need to get away," she said, waiting until a nearby businessman left the restaurant before talking about being Jewish. "France has changed."

Today, 27 world leaders — a king and queen, presidents and prime ministers — will gather in Poland to mark the 60th anniversary of the liberation of the Auschwitz death camp, where 1 million people, mostly Jews, were murdered.

Anti-Semitism, the Church and the Last Days--Kinsella
--> Posted to Anti_Semitism for January, 2005

With anti-Semitism continuing to rise throughout the world, the outlook for tiny Israel for the next year is, at best, bleak. Increasingly, Israel is being portrayed as an aggressor and occupier of stolen lands -- and that criticism comes from Israel's friends. Israel's enemies are nowhere near so kind in their assessment.

According to Israel's former Chief Rabbi, Meir Lau, anti-Semitism is on the rise in nearly every European country - expressed, among other ways, via extreme anti-Israel sentiments, cemetery desecration, and physical attacks on Jews.

Many Jewish families he had met said that they live in fear. "I've met parents who tell me that when they send their children to Bnei Akiva (a religious-Zionist youth movement) for evening activities they are in constant fear that something terrible will happen, G-d forbid, until they return.

Rabbi to Jews: Leave Europe
--> Posted to Anti_Semitism for December, 2004

European Jewry is nearing its end and the remaining communities should move to Israel, former Israeli chief Rabbi Meir Lau said in a statement released in Germany.

"I see the end of the Diaspora of Jews in Europe," said Rabbi Lau, a survivor of the Holocaust and a popular lecturer in America and Europe. He called on Israel "to prepare for a new phase of the spiritual and physical absorption of European Jewry before they consider emigrating to the Unites States or Australia [instead]."

He warned that rising anti-Semitism threatens the Jews of Europe, noting that anti-Semitism is on the rise in nearly every European country - expressed, among other ways, via extreme anti-Israel sentiments. Jewish Agency statistics have more than 1.14 million Jews in Europe, including more than a million in western Europe.

The Longest Hatred--Christianity Today

'The Longest Hatred'

Evangelicals must fight the resurgence of anti-Semitism.

A Christianity Today editorial

Last fall, two Muslims attending an exclusive secondary school in Paris began harassing and beating another student, an 11-year-old Jewish boy, shouting, "We'll finish Hitler's job!" Traumatized, the victim had to go on tranquilizers. The headmaster moved him to another class and filed a lawsuit against the assailants. But without an admission of guilt or witnesses willing to testify, prospects of a conviction are slim. "We're in a dead-end," the headmaster said.

The Lawyers Committee for Human Rights issued a report in 2002 titled "Fire and Broken Glass." It chronicles a rising European tide of firebombings of Jewish synagogues, schools, and homes; desecrations of Jewish cemeteries and Holocaust memorials; attacks by skinheads; and marches by people who chanted "Sieg heil!" and "Jews into the sea!"

Often such vitriol accompanies over-the-top criticism of Israel. The Italian daily La Stampa recently printed a front-page cartoon with an Israeli tank pointing its gun at the baby Jesus, who exclaims, "Surely they don't want to kill me again."

Henry Ford's Legacy
--> Posted to Anti_Semitism for December, 2003

Henry Ford's 'Legacy'

The foundation he created gets into Middle East trouble.

The quip going around nonprofit circles these days is that the Ford Foundation's support for Palestinian extremists is the one area of funding it could defend on the grounds of donor intent--an allusion to the notorious anti-Semitism of automaker and founder Henry Ford.

But Chuck Grassley, for one, is not amused. In response to a Jewish Telegraphic Agency series detailing Ford's support for Palestinian NGOs crusading against Israel, the Iowa Republican has announced that the Senate Finance Committee will review the matter. In so doing, we hope it raises a question long overdue for Congressional scrutiny: How U.S. tax laws intended to encourage charity have had the unintended effect of spawning a foundation priesthood funded into perpetuity and insulated from public accountability.
