Evolving Standards of Indecency--Limbaugh
--> Posted to Culture_Decline for June, 2008
|
The Supreme Court's barring of the death penalty for child rapists in Kennedy v. Louisiana underscores the hazards in the court's abandonment of moral absolutes in favor of "evolving standards of decency" and the court's unbridled arrogance in substituting its subjective judgment for the legislatively enacted will of the people.
In Kennedy, the court reversed the decision of the Louisiana Supreme Court to uphold the capital punishment of a convicted child rapist, holding that the Eighth Amendment's cruel and unusual punishment clause prohibits executing such offenders "where the crime did not result, and was not intended to result, in the victim's death." Homosexuality Takes Congress by Storm
--> Posted to Culture_Decline for June, 2008

The two openly homosexual members of the U.S. House of Representatives have recruited 50 of their colleagues to officially join them in promoting the homosexual agenda in Congress.
Democrats Barney Frank of Massachusetts and Tammy Baldwin of Wisconsin are the only open homosexuals serving in Congress. They have joined with Republicans Ileana Ros-Lehtinen of Florida and Christopher Shays of Connecticut, and 50 other Democrats to create the House Gay, Lesbian, Bisexual, and Transgender Caucus. Peter LaBarbera, president of Americans for Truth About Homosexuality, says it is a sad day when Congress enshrines official promotion of sexual immorality.

Colorado Governor oks Open Bathrooms

Colorado Governor Bill Ritter has signed a bill that has shocked many of the state's residents.
The bill adds transgendered people to the list included in the state's non-discrimination law. That means businesses will be required to hire transgendered people, even if they are owned and operated by Christians who oppose the lifestyle on moral grounds. Focus on the Family spokesman Bruce Hausknecht was asked what impact that will have on churches and ministries such as his.

The Aftershocks of Gay Marriage
by Gary Bauer (more by this author) Posted 05/30/2008 ET
Journalists often talk about whether a story has “legs.” Whether it has the ability to walk forward and affect events weeks or months into the future.
Astonishingly, there’s been little talk about the long-term effects of the California Supreme Court’s legalization of same-sex marriage. But, looking beyond the ruling’s most obvious implication, the redefinition of marriage, the decision foreshadows a nation in which all citizens will not only be asked to tolerate same-sex marriage, but be required to promote it. "A Victory for Equality and Justice," blared the headline above the editorial. "Momentous," "historic," "a major victory for civil rights," "a scrupulously fair ruling based on law, precedents and common sense."
This was the ecstatic reaction of The New York Times to the California Supreme Court's declaration that homosexuals have a right to marry and have their unions recognized as marriages. View Full Article

Massachusetts Senator Proposes Additional $300,000 for Pro-Homosexual Programs in Schools
Group calls for strong public response against taxpayer funding of homosexual activism in schools
By Mark Westen
BOSTON, May 20, 2008 (lifesitenews) - In what many consider a victory for the children of Massachusetts, a budget measure passed by the Massachusetts House of Representatives to increase its previous $500,000 funding of ‘gay friendly’ programs targeting school children to $750,000, was cut back by $200,000 by the Senate Ways and Means Committee. This partial cutback was the government's response to a wave of public outrage which flooded the Committee from all over North America. MassResistance.org, the pro-family action centre for Massachusetts, was responsible for uncovering this story and making the public aware of the homosexual lobby’s attempt to acquire further state funding for their school based indoctrination programs. California Decision will Radically Change Society
--> Posted to Culture_Decline for May, 2008
|
Americans seem mesmerized by the word "change." And, by golly, they sure got it last week from the California Supreme Court. It is difficult to imagine a single social change greater than redefining marriage from opposite sex to include members of the same sex.
Nothing imaginable -- leftward or rightward -- would constitute as radical a change in the way society is structured as this redefining of marriage for the first time in history: Not another Prohibition, not government taking over all health care, not changing all public education to private schools, not America leaving the United Nations, not rescinding the income tax and replacing it with a consumption tax. Nothing.

Kevin and Scotty exchanged vows on the season finale of ABC's Brothers and Sisters Sunday night. And the actor who plays "Kevin," Matthew Rhys, told USA Today, "It's all very progressive, evolved and about time."
In a story about the atypical TV wedding, USA Today's reporter William Kleck mentioned that the show is "liberal leaning" but "does attempt to recognize those who oppose gay marriage by introducing Scotty's parents, who skip the ceremony. That volatile relationship is expected to be explored in Season 3."

Exclusive: J.P. and Amanda Duffy expose dating service's encouragement of casual sex

This month is the two year anniversary of our matching on eHarmony. On our wedding day last November, we eagerly shared our eHarmony story with all of our family and guests. At every opportunity, we praised the matching service for promoting healthy life-long marriage relationships.
To the skeptics of online dating, we explained that eHarmony is unique in that the matching service doesn't promote the "hook-up" culture. According to the company's mission statement, their goal is to "help couples achieve stronger, healthier and happier marriages." We were impressed with eHarmony's online questionnaire and its ability to identify the character and compatibility traits we were looking for in a spouse.

They say those who don't learn from history are doomed to repeat it. I believe the U.S. is slouching toward Rome – and a Cicero is nowhere to be found.
Where are we today compared to the empire that lasted 500 years?
* National debt: $10 trillion
* U.S. federal budget over $3 trillion. That's 50 percent higher than it was in 2000.
* Trade deficit: $58 billion
* No meaningful borders, with record immigration levels and no chance for assimilation
* Total breakdown of education system
* No common faith or unifying moral principles that bind the nation together
* Even age-old institutions like marriage and parenthood are being redefined * In a time of relative peace, our military forces are stationed in more than 100 foreign nations View Full Article

So there I was, listening intently to local radio talker Bob White interviewing a witch.
Yes, a real witch – and a male one at that. The guest sounded New Agey and effeminate, but harmless enough, and painted a colorful picture of what modern-day witches, or "Wiccans," believe and do. You know, god-and-goddess worship, preparing herbal remedies, casting spells, caring for the Earth and so on – all couched in terms that sounded almost reasonable, or at least tolerable in a diverse society like ours.

The ugly results of banning God from the culture

It seems like every time we read what is happening in our world today, there is a lot of bad news. I think we all could use some good news in a bad world, don't you?
The Old Testament talks about a dark time in Israel's history when good news was in short supply as well. They had fallen on hard times because of their disobedience to God. A famine had swept the land. Things were so bad and food was so scarce that people had resorted to eating things like donkeys' heads and bird dung. Some had even turned to cannibalism.

Recently, a young woman came by my office to discuss my opposition to abortion. Two of her friends had already had abortions though she had not. She was motivated to visit me by a discussion in her Women’s Studies class – one that broached the controversial topic of abortion and rape.
The feminist teaching the class was one affiliated with our Women’s Resource Center – an office that seeks to win the abortion debate by ensuring that it never actually takes place. The feminists figure that simply maintaining the status quo will look a lot like winning a “debate” to those unaware of the extent of feminist opposition to the First Amendment. They also seek to win the abortion “debate” by using the most extreme cases to justify abortion for the sake of convenience.

The Unspeakable American Culture
--> Posted to Culture_Decline for October, 2007

http://www.JewishWorldReview.com | In a recent speech at the National Press Club, Katie Couric expressed somber disapproval of the jingoistic excesses after 9/11. Among the things that vexed her: "The whole culture of wearing flags on our lapel and saying 'we' when referring to the United States." From what I can tell, nobody among the journalistic swells bothered to ask, "Who isn't 'we,' Kemo Sabe?"
I don't want to revisit those supposedly Orwellian flag pins, which sat so heavily on so many journalistic lapels. But it's worth recalling that during World War II, civilian correspondent Walter Cronkite — whose anchor job Couric now holds — gladly wore a uniform, not just a pin, and subjected himself to military censors. He also used, I'm sure, the word "we" when referring to Americans.

Old America’s knowledge of the Bible remained fairly strong for the first 170 or so years from the Continental Congress. Abraham Lincoln was perhaps America's most "biblical" president." Woodrow Wilson, another intensely biblical president, spoke in biblical terms when he took America into the First World War--on behalf of freedom. Even after the end of World War II knowledge of the Bible, and dependence on it as a shaper and molder of American destiny was strong.

When unwashed, obscenity-spewing comedian George Carlin was arrested at Summerfest in Milwaukee back in 1972, it was because of the moral outrage of a police officer named Elmer Lenz. His wife and his little boy were in the audience, and he had the temerity to resent the filthy language hitting them in the face. Being a decent man, he got up to do something about it and reported it to a senior officer who arrested the comedian. Now, all these years later, he's gotten over it. The whole episode doesn't matter anymore. How very sad that it doesn't.

The Numbers on Moral Decline---March 10

Most American parents display an optimism about their children living in a richer, more technologically advanced world and as they grow, that they'll be healthier with a longer life expectancy. All that said, there's also a remarkable pessimism about the moral decline they are bequeathing to the next generation.
A new cultural-values survey of 2,000 American adults performed by the polling firm of Fabrizio, McLaughlin & Associates for the Culture and Media Institute reveals a strong majority, 74 percent, believes moral values in America are weaker than they were 20 years ago. Almost half, 48 percent, agree that values are (SET ITAL) much (END ITAL) weaker than they were 20 years ago.

The Jewish people have the Anti-Defamation League, and you have started an "anti-defamation league" for Christians. Why?
The Anti-Defamation League has come up before. It was started more than a hundred years ago to respond to anti-Semitism. Unfortunately, it's changed over time. It's one of many "mainline" organizations that basically have been taken over by liberals. And today, rather than fighting anti-Semitism, per se, a lot of what it does has nothing to do with combating anti-Semitism, but rather promoting the Left's agenda.

The Real Culture of Corruption By Michael Reagan
John Gibson asked me the other day on Fox TV why hordes of Mexicans flee their homeland and enter the U.S. illegally. My answer: the cancer of corruption that afflicts every level of Mexican society and restricts even the smallest forms of economic opportunity for the poorest Mexicans.
I said that Mexico has everything to make it a prosperous First World country. They have minerals, they have agriculture, oil, tourism - everything they need to rank high among First World countries. All that stands in their way is corruption.
Mexico is a corrupt nation with a corrupt government from top to bottom, and until the U.S. and President Bush stand up and point a finger - as my dad did at the evil empire - and say you have to eliminate corruption if you want to keep your people home, the corruption will continue and so will the flow of illegal aliens fleeing it.

Violent, sexual video games up '10,000 percent,' Minnesota advocate says
WASHINGTON — Violent, sexual content is exploding in video games.
The Minnesota-based National Institute on Media and the Family's tenth annual Video Game Report Card gives poor grades to game makers and retailers alike.
It found kids as young as eight or nine were able to buy M-rated, or mature, video games in most stores. A notable exception was Best Buy, which got an A-plus for 100 percent enforcement of ratings restrictions.
Institute president and founder David Walsh says profanity in video games has skyrocketed 10,000 percent since the late 1990s, while sexual content has surged by 800 percent.
Walsh says the rating system for video games doesn't accurately represent game content and parents don't understand it anyway. He's pushing for a universal rating system like the one used for films.
